Biography from Crocker Art Museum Store:
Painter, etcher. Born in San Francisco, CA on June 17, 1879. At the turn of the century Charlotte Butler studied privately with Gottardo Piazzoni and at the Mark Hopkins Institute under Mathews and Aitken. At that school she served as assistant teacher of drawing until 1905. In that year she married artist William L. Skinner and settled in Lone Pine, CA in 1910. While there, she painted the local scenery and taught painting to the Native American children. Following brief stays in San Francisco and Eugene, OR, in 1935 she moved to Morro Bay, CA where she remained until her death in Atascadero on Aug. 19, 1963. Her work includes landscapes in watercolor and oil as well as etchings. Member: Las Amigas del Morro; SF Women Artists; LAAA. Exh: Calif. Statewide (Santa Cruz), 1928-33; Oakland Art Gallery, 1928, 1934; SFAA, 1928-30; Calif. State Fair, 1927-37; San Luis Obispo Co. Show, 1956. In: CSL. AAA 1929-33; WWAA 1938-41; WWC 1942; KOV; San Luis Obispo Tribune, 8-21-1963 (obit).
