| Please note: Artists not classified as American in our database may have limited biographical data
compared to the extensive information about American artists.
A German Expressionist, Clemens Spengler was born in Munich in 1903 and died in Aying, a suburb to Munich in 1968.
He was a pupil of the German Art nouveau master Richard Riemerschmid (1868-1957) and German modernist Karl Caspar (1879-1956)
He worked and traveled in Paris during the years 1926 and 1929, and worked with graphic design during the 1930's and did poster layouts for the artist ball and the Deutsches Theater in Munich.
He worked with glass art and church windows for the Mayerschen Hofkunstanstalt Royal school and did several illustrations for various German publications including The Art Nouveau art magazine The Jugend and Dutsche Frauenztg.
