Born in Buffalo, NY on Oct. 3, 1876,  Cornelia Sage was educated at a private French School in her native city.  Having chosen an art career, she studied at the Art Students League in both Buffalo and New York City, and in Paris at Ecole du Louvre. 

After her marriage to Wm Quinton in 1917, she was a resident of Buffalo and director of the Albright Gallery before settling in San Francisco in the 1920s.  From 1924-30 she was director of the California Palace of the Legion of Honor, and in 1926 was a member of the national advisory committee at the Sesqui-Centennial Expo in Philadelphia. 

As well as an organizer of art exhibitions, she also contributed art criticisms to magazines and newspapers. 

Mrs. Quinton died in Santa Barbara, CA on May 16, 1936.

Art Club; AFA; Buffalo Society of Artists; NY WC Club; LA AA; Western Ass'n of Museum Directors.  Awards:  NSS, 1916; Sociéte des Beaux  Arts (Paris), 1916 (medal); Decoration Palme d'Academique, 1917; Officier de Instruction Publique (Paris), 1917; Cross of the Legion of Honor, 1921; Sorolla Medal, Hispanic Society of America, 1924.

Cornelia Quinton was a painter and art administrator and also is known by her maiden name, Cornelia Bentley Sage. A native of Buffalo, New York, she was educated at a private French school and at the Art Students Leagues in Buffalo and New York. She also studied in Paris at the Ecole du Louvre, and then returned to Buffalo where she served from 1910 to 1924 as Director of the Albright-Knox Art Gallery, the first woman director of a major art museum in America.

She married Major William Quinton in 1917, and in the mid 20s, the couple went to California where she took the position of Director of the California Palace of the Legion of Honor in San Francisco, serving in this position from 1924 to 1930.

As a painter, she exhibited with the New York Water Color Society, and the Societe des Beaux Arts in Paris, 1916.

She died in Santa Barbara on May 16, 1936.
