| Born in Billings, MT on July 21, 1907. Sampson grew up on a ranch near the Crow reservation and taught himself to paint. From 1929-34 he attended the AIC and earned his tuition as a caricaturist on the excursion boats on Lake Michigan and by driving cattle from Montana to Chicago. After his art training, he moved to California and worked in Yosemite on art projects for the WPA. In 1939 he established a studio in San Francisco and during the final year of the GGIE, acted as art director. Whe (showing 500 of 869 characters). |
