This biography from the Archives of AskART:
The following, submitted October 2005, is from the artist.

Daniel Stuelpnagel has been painting since 1985, after studying under Herb Jackson at Davidson College in North Carolina.  The artist pursued studio work with Dan Dudrow at the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore, Maryland in continuing studies between 1991 and 1993.

In addition to a 2001 painting trip to Galápagos Islands, Ecuador, the artist spent two years in northern California.

The artist began painting seascapes in 1992, and developed his geometric abstractions beginning in 1995, completing his first series for exhibition in 1998.  He has participated in more than 30 exhibitions in the past seven years.  Recent travels include a 2003 visit to Barcelona, Spain and a trip to northern Italy in January, 2005.

The artist has donated paintings to assist in fund-raising for organizations concerned with children's arts education and literacy, housing for the disabled, public television, cancer treatment research and hospice care for terminal AIDS patients.

Stuelpnagel has worked with computer technology and has studied the philosophy of quantum physics; he attributes his development of geometric abstraction in part to these areas of interest.  His latest work in abstract landscape paintings represents a fusion of the geometric and seascape compositions, emphasizing the subtle geometry emergent in nature to reveal the properties of earth, sea and sky.

Biography from Parish Gallery - Georgetown:
"I portray the forces we experience in life, and the frameworks in which we interact," says Stuelpnagel. "As a meditative tribute to primordial memories, I paint the confluence of motion and structure, interwoven with a natural beauty that lends its voice to human pursuits."

Daniel Stuelpnagel's paintings present a stylized view of colorful yet tranquil worlds, displaying a subtle tension between representation and abstraction. He has been painting since 1985, after studying under Herb Jackson at Davidson College.

He pursued studio work with Dan Dudrow at the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore from 1991 to 1993. Stuelpnagel synthesizes a number of 20th-century influences including Rothko, Mondrian, and Stella, subtly engaging the viewer in a fulfilling dialog.
