Doris Steider (1924-2010)
A prominent New Mexico artist, she has had more than eighty one-woman shows and won more than seventy awards for her mood paintings that evoke the environment she loved including mountains, old fences, and rural countryside. Steider characterized her work as 'magic realism' and though she wanted her paintings to capture the mood of an area she created her own images by putting trees where she wanted them or moving mountains if she thought it would best to create (showing 500 of 1051 characters). |
