A prominent New Mexico artist, she has had more than eighty one-woman shows and won more than seventy awards for her mood paintings that evoke the environment she loves including mountains, old fences, and rural countryside. Steider characterizes her work as 'magic realism' and though she wants her paintings to capture the mood of an area she creates her own images by putting trees where she wants them or moving mountains if she think it will best create a mood.
