| Born in Brooklyn, NY of Norwegian parents on Jan. 31, 1907. Sconhoft studied art in NYC at the Pratt Institute, Cooper Union, and ASL under Robert Henri. In 1923 he settled in San Pedro, CA and studied locally at the Otis Art Institute under Vysekal and with MacDonald-Wright at the ASL. As a painter, he scorned the modernists but broke from classic tradition and was a member of the Independents. During the early 1930s he spent two years in Italy, Austria, and France.
