This biography from the Archives of AskART:

A note from the artist's nephew, Mike Baldwin:

After my Aunt Bernice (Ed's wife) passed away, my mother and I went to the dedication of the public library my Aunt created in Puerto Vallarta, and cleaned out Bernice and Edgar's house.  Such wonderful pieces of art!  Many aren't aware he directed the background art in the "Rites of Spring" segment for Disney's original Fantasia, and worked on numerous films up until that fateful day in 1954 when he'd had enough, stormed into Walt's office and gave him a piece of his mind.  He then went home, dug a hole in the back yard, smashed every cell and piece of original background art he had and buried it all. Edgar and Bernice moved down to Puerto Vallarta, never to return to live in the US.  Bernice ended up with a role in John Huston's film which put Puerto Vallarta on the map, "Night of the Iguana", with Richard Burton.

This biography from the Archives of AskART:
Born in Imperial, California on September 8, 1908.  Ed Starr graduated from high school in Oakland and then attended the CCAC and the PAFA.   Returning to Los Angeles, he studied with Lawrence Murphy and Millard Sheets at the Chouinard School of Art.

During the 1930s he was employed at Disney Studios while exhibiting in juried shows in California and Arizona. He made many sketching trips with Sheets to Mexico.

After "discovering" Puerto Vallarta, he and his wife settled there in 1954. He established a studio there in the old Hotel Oceano where he continued to paint until his death on Oct. 16, 1971.
