| A native of Pforzheim, Germany, he first studied at the Art Craft School there. Then he attended the Munich Academy of Fine Arts and after emigrating to the U.S., assisted Paul Manship and Herbert Haseltine. The association with Haseltine inspired him to focus on animal subjects, and by 1937, he was winning prestigious awards from the National Academy, the Architectural League and the National Arts Club. His animal sculptures are at many zoos including Washington D.C. and Detroit. |
