Born and raised in Chicago, Illinois, Ethel Spears became a painter of whimsical genre scenes depicting people going about the business of living in a big city. She was also a noted mural painter including more than twenty-three murals in Chicago. She was a member of the National Society of Mural Painters and in the 1930s was active as a WPA (Works Progress Administration) artist.
She enrolled at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and studied in the textile design department. She (showing 500 of 2154 characters). |
