This biography from the Archives of AskART:
Born in San Francisco, CA on Nov. 30, 1890. Florence Williams studied at the Mark Hopkins Art Institute and continued at the ASL in NYC, PAFA, and the Hans Hofmann School of Art. She married Henry Swift in 1920. During the 1930s she worked for the Federal Art Project (one of her commissions was one of two of the tile mosaics on the east facade of the old art gallery at UC Berkeley; the other one was done by Helen Bruton). A resident of Berkeley until 1962, she died in nearby Orinda on July 3, 1977. Her paintings include still lifes and portraits. Exh: SFAA, 1916-30s; Oakland Art Gallery, 1917; Berkeley League of FA, 1927; SFMA, 1935; GGIE, 1939; SF Women Artists, 1950, 1951 (awards). In: UC Berkeley; Mills College (Oakland); SFMA.
