The following is from Gretchen S Drown of Portland, Maine:
You may benefit from some local "general knowledge" from Portland, Maine. Simmons's presence is strong in our city, which features two outdoor sculptures by him: Our Lady of Victories (Civil War Monument, c. 1891) on Monument Square, and the seated statue of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow at Longfellow Square.
Upon Simmons's death in 1913, several works done in marble in his Rome studio were given to the City (showing 500 of 2311 characters). |
