| Frederick Rhodes Sisson, etcher and landscape painter, was born in Providence, Rhode Island in 1893. He attended the Rhode Island School of Design, the Boston Museum of Fine Arts School and the Academy de la Grande Chaumière, Paris. Sisson also studied privately with Abbott Thayer in New Hampshire from 1920-21.
The artist settled back in Providence where he taught art at his alma mater, the Rhode Island School of Design, from 1924 until 1952. During that time he also worked as a critic for the Providence Journal (1932-50).
Sisson was a prominent member of the Providence Art Club and the Contemporary Artists of Providence. Upon his retirement in 1952, he moved to Falmouth, Massachusetts where he lived until his death in 1962.
