This biography from the Archives of AskART:
Born in Lorch, Germany on May 3, 1885. Schweigardt studied at the Munich and Stuttgart Academies and with Auguste Rodin in Paris. He immigrated to America in 1930 and the following year settled in San Francisco. He was active in San Diego during the time of the exposition in 1935 and, while there, fulfilled several commissions. He died on Sept. 21, 1948 while visiting in Albany, NY. Member: San Diego FA Society; LA AA; Society for Sanity in Art. Exh: Paris Expo, 1913 (1st prize); Webb Gallery (LA), 1934; Calif.-Pacific Int'l Expo, San Diego, 1935 (gold medal); CPLH, 1939, 1945. In: Deutsches Museum (Munich); Hall of Education, Balboa Park, San Diego (fountains); USC; Golden Gate Bridge toll plaza (monument to Joseph B. Strauss); Museum of Science and Industry (NYC).
