| Freeman August Silva was born in Oakland, CA on Aug. 1, 1916. Silva earned an art degree at UC Berkeley and worked briefly for Disney Studios. Returning to Oakland in 1939, he worked as a salesman while painting in his leisure. In 1972 he moved to Grass Valley, CA where he remained until his death on Aug. 5, 1998.
