This biography from the Archives of AskART:
| A painter of impressionistic landscapes and atmospheric street scenes, Gabor Svagrik's major influences are his love of travel and the outdoors. He lives and works in Tucson, Arizona.
Svagrik grew up in rural Hungary influenced by his grandmother who was a painter and inspired by the art in her books, especially the work of Frederic Remington. His parents moved to the suburbs of Chicago when he was 13. He continued to pursue his interest in art while in high school through a correspondence course. He later attended the American Academy of Art and studied with watercolorist Irvng Shapiro who he credits with teaching him the fundamentals of design, composition, color and drawing.
Upon graduation Svagrik worked as an illustrator but quickly decided that he wanted to pursue a career in fine art. Svagrik enjoys traveling to find his reference material and after a plein air workshop in Arizona in 1999 he decided to move to Tucson permanently in 2002. The artist is a regular instructor at the Scottsdale Artist School.

Biography from Trailside Galleries - WY:
| Gabor Svagrik was born in 1970 in Szeged, Hungary, the largest,
southern-most city, in Hungary. His family emigrated to the
states in 1983 to Illinois. He studied at the American
Academy of Art from 1989 to 1992. His teacher was watercolorist
Irving Shapiro who stressed to the students composition, design, and
drawing. Gabor also took two years of life drawing and
illustration. His grandmother was also a big influence on him,
because she was a painter. It is in her studio where he saw his
first original painting, and the smell of oil paint still reminds him
of her.
He later joined the Palette & Chisel in 1994 in
Chicago, and took a workshop with Scott Burdick. Since then, he
has taken workshops with Matt Smith and Robert Moore.
Gabor’s travels have taken him to many states throughout the
west. The reason he loves the west is the vast open spaces and
huge mountains where one can still find untouched places.
