This biography from the Archives of AskART:
A watercolor painter of Kansas City and surrounding area scenery (mostly Clay and Platte Counties), Gale Stockwell had a residence at 712 NE 42nd Terrace, Kansas City, Missouri.

He combined painting with his business as an advertising agent and exhibited his paintings at the Country Club Plaza art fair since 1932.  His painting of Parkville, Main Street [Missouri] 1933 was placed in the White House during President Richard Nixon's administration.  This painting is now part of the Smithsonian American Art Museum collection in Washington, DC. ID Number: 1964.1.124.

The following additional information was submitted in October of 2006 by Dr. C.R.Hill:

Artist Gale Stockwell was born, raised and educated in Kansas City, Missouri.  He was winner of the Gold Medal in oil painting at the Midwestern Artists Exhibition, a five state show in 1928.  He also won the Bronze Medal in Watercolor in 1930.

He won first prize in the Kansas City Art Institute Sweep Stake Show in 1942 and first Prize in the Missouri State Fair in oil painting in 1942.  He won numerous prizes in the Greater Kansas City Art Association exhibits in the 1950's.

He exhibited work in the Corcoran Gallery, Washington, D.C. in 1933.  His painting, Storm Over the Ozarks"was shown at the Rockefeller Center in New York in 1945 and traveled to 8 important museums throughout the nation in 1945.  His painting, Parkville Main Street, previously noted in his biography is in the National Collection of Fine Arts, Washington, D.C. and has been exhibited in the White House.  He specialized in Midwestern subjects.
