Georg Schlicht (1886-1964)

His  painting style changed from still lives and landscapes that were influenced by impressionism to stringent compositions, including christian visionary subjects.  His important portraits may be assigned to the ''New Objectivity (Neue Sachlichkeit)" style.

Schlicht was born on December 27, 1886 in Wladykino, Russia to Oskar Schlicht, a German engineer and Sophia Galjatina, a descendant from a Russian aristrocratic family.  Already in 1911 he participated (with Mussatov, Malevitsh, and others) in an exhibition in Saint Petersburg.  Because of his German ancestry, he was interned in 1915 and expelled from Russia in 1918.  From then on he lived most of his life in Berlin, Germany.
