Biography from David Dike Fine Art:
By 1942, George Samerjan had become an acclaimed artist having showed his artwork at the National Academy of Design, the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art and Denver Art Museum.

He's done a complete series of works, 'on the spot', at Camp Berkeley, Texas.  Depicted are various aspects of basic training, an army medical replacement training center at Camp Berkeley, Texas in the year 1942.

Biography from Crocker Art Museum Store:
Painter, muralist, illustrator, graphic designer, George Samerjan was born in Boston, MA on May 12, 1915.  Samerjan moved to California with his family in 1921, and soon settled in Hollywood where he studied at the Chouinard and Otis Art Institutes.

During the 1930s he was art director of CBS Radio and painted murals in post offices in Culver City, Maywood, and Calexico, CA under the auspices of the Federal Art Project.  During this time he also taught at Occidental College and Otis Art Institute.

Following service in WWII, he was art director of the Los Angeles Times for two years. Upon moving to NYC in 1947, he became creative director for Esquire magazine, and taught at Pratt Institute (1952) and at New York University for 25 years.

Samerjan now lives in Carmel, NY.
