Biography from Crocker Art Museum Store:
Painter. Born in Chicago, IL on Feb 4, 1885 of Czechoslovakian descent. The Seidenecks were architects who for two hundred years built castles in Bohemia. George Seideneck began his art training in his native city at Smith Art Academy and the AIC. In 1911 he sailed to Europe for further study in England and the Royal Academy in Munich under Carl Marr and Walter Thor. After three years, he returned to Chicago and taught at the Academy of Fine Art and Academy of Design. Seideneck came to California in 1918 on a sketching tour with the intention of staying three months. While in Carmel he met artist Catherine Comstock. After their marriage in 1920, the couple spent two and a half years traveling and studying in Europe. Seideneck was active in the local art scene as an organizer, and painter of portraits and landscapes. He remained a resident of Carmel until his death on March 7, 1972.
