Born in Canada, George Simons was raised in Streator, Illinois where he met a local man, Grenville Dodge, who became the Chief Surveyor for the expansion of the Union Pacific Railroad. In 1853, he joined Dodge in Council Bluffs, Iowa as a part of Dodge's railroad survey party and made his home there for 50 years.
Simons traveled extensively, prospecting for gold in Colorado, hunting buffalo with Indians, traveling the Oregon Trail into California and doing stage sets for Brigham Young in (showing 500 of 1538 characters). |
