Biography from AskART:
| Please note: Artists not classified as American in our database may have limited biographical data
compared to the extensive information about American artists.
Japanese born, Hajime Sorayama became an illustrator of erotic
art---hyper-realist, ultra sexy female figures known as "sexy
robots". He attended Shikoku Gakuin University, but left to
attend the Chuo Art School from where he graduated in 1968. He
then took a job as an illustrator for an advertising agency for four
years before working independently as a free-lance illustrator.
He lives with his wife and two daughters in Tokyo, Japan. (2006)
In 1978, he created his first 'robot' and from that time has been in numerous books with his illustrations including Sexy Robot (1983); Pin Up (1984); Hyper Illustrations (1989); Naga Deluxe (1997); and The Gynoids Genetically Manipulated (2000)
His work is in the permanent collections of the Museum of Modern Art in
New York and the Smithsonian Institution in Washington DC.
