Biography from AskART:
Harry Sutton was born in Salem Massachusetts in 1897.  He was a pupil at the Boston Museum of Fine Arts School and also studied at l'Academie Julian in Paris.  He resided in Andover Massachusetts until his death in 1984 and was known for his portraits, landscapes, and still lifes.

Note from Ben Kozlovsky, Sr.

In the 1940s, the painter Harry Sutton had a studio on Porter Road.  My parents sent me for a sitting.

Harry had chosen to use the exacting medium of "egg tempera," the use of which predated the development of oil-paint mediums and was used by the earliest artists of the Renaissance.  Harry would carefully break and separate several eggs; he would then mix the yolks with dry pigments on the palette, producing brilliant colors which when dry were quite impermeable. (What he did with the whites I never discovered; perhaps his mother made a lot of angel food cakes.  Harry was not married.)
