This biography from the Archives of AskART:
Born in Rockport, Mendocino County, CA on Nov. 11, 1893. After graduating from the CSFA in 1912, Salmi continued her art studies at the Rudolph Schaeffer School of Design, CCAC, and UC Berkeley. She was then employed in San Francisco by the Stained Glass Company as a designer and as a re-toucher for photographer Wm Dassonville. During the 1920s she exhibited oils and watercolors in juried shows in the San Francisco Bay area. In 1936 she founded the Richmond (CA) Art Center and served as its director until 1960. Her involvement with the Girl Scouts, Community Welfare Council, YWCA, and other local organizations earned her the honor of being named Richmond's Woman of the Year in 1954. Salmi was a resident of Point Richmond until her death on April 22, 1986. Member: SFAA; AFA; SF Women Artists; Western Ass'n of Art Museum Directors. Exh: SFAA, 1929; Calif.
