This biography from the Archives of AskART:

The following additional information was supplied by Robert A. Steinegger in November of 2006:

Henry Steinegger was my Great-Grandfather.  He died Jul. 12, 1917 in Fruitvale, CA.  I recently found a copy of his Obituary.  Also, he is listed as an employee of Britton & Rey. He was actually a co-founder of Britton, Rey, & Co.  My Great-Aunt (Dr. Etta S. Lund, his daughter) wrote in a 1958 article about how they would tease him by calling him "& Co.". The name was just too long to put on the logo!

This biography from the Archives of AskART:
Born in Switzerland in 1831. Steinegger was active in California after 1854 and worked in San Francisco for Britton & Rey Lithographers during 1859-80.  His work was reproduced in the 1878 lithograph General Custer's Death Struggle: The Battle of the Little Big Horn.  In 1888 he did a bird’s-eye view of Los Angeles and appears to have been inactive after that time.  He died in Fruitvale, CA on July 12, 1917.  Works held:  Society of California Pioneers.
