Herman Soderston (Sodersten) (1862-1926)
Born on July 12, 1862 in Filipstad, Sweden, Soderston had his first art lessons with his uncle John Soderston. From 1881 to 1887, he studied at the Art Academy, then in Paris, France, and in 1889, he went to New Haven, Connecticut, to visit his father and siblings there. While his previous work in Sweden consisted mainly of landscapes, he began making a name for himself as a portrait painter, being given several portrait commissions (showing 500 of 2242 characters). |
