| Hisashi T. Shimada was born in Ishikawaken, Japan on Sept. 17, 1886. Shimada settled in Los Angeles in 1906. For several years he studied at the local Art Students League where he was greatly influenced by Rex Slinkard. During the Depression of the 1930s he created window displays and designed jewelry. Shimada died in Los Angeles on April 3, 1940.
