Active in New Orleans from 1896 to 1902 and then in Newark, New Jersey from 1920, Ida Wells Stroud, along with her daughter, Clara Stroud, was a leading figure in establishing watercolor as an acceptable and uniquely American medium for painters. She was also a ceramist and a part of the early 20th-century Arts and Crafts Movement that promoted the aesthetic creation of practical objects.

At the beginning of her career, Stroud taught at the Newark School of Fine and Industrial Art and fro (showing 500 of 23587 characters).
