This biography from the Archives of AskART:
| Ilya Schor was born in Zlotzow, Galicia in 1904, which is now part of
Poland and Russia. He met his future wife and artist, Resia
Schor, while living in Poland. They fled from Poland to Paris,
where they married, to escape the Nazis, eventually reaching New York,
by way of Lisbon, on December 3, 1941.
The Schors moved in a cosmopolitan circle of intellectuals and artists
in New York and spoke French. He became a renowned independent
artist of Judaica, and also worked in New York for many years as a
illustrator of books.
Schor exhibited at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts Annual Exhibition in 1949 and 1952.
