Born in Texas on Feb. 22, 1895.
Shields was a resident of San Diego in 1932. Shortly thereafter, he moved to Sacramento where for 40 years he was a sign painter for McClellan Air Force Base. In his leisure, he worked in oil, watercolor, and pen & ink to produce seascapes and landscapes of the Mother Lode area and the Sacramento environs.
