| | Born in Hawaii on Nov. 6, 1880. A veteran of WWI, Spalding settled in Pasadena in 1924. He was often a painting partner of Nicolai Fechin and shared a studio with David Tauszky. As the president of a trust company, he was a wealthy man who never sold his work or depended on it for income. His subjects are mostly figure studies. Spalding died in Pasadena on Oct. 27, 1954.
