This biography from the Archives of AskART:
| James Nelson Slick 1901-1979
He was teaching in Los Angeles when he began an exploration of the medium of fine art lithography in the Los Angeles studio of Lynton R. Kistler, master lithographer. Kistler encouraged painters, sculptors, teachers from the area schools to learn, understand and appreciate the aesthetics of lithography - from drawing upon the special limestone, to drawing on a metal plate, to printing offset with nuances of various forms of tusche. The lithography 'portrait' of the famous horse: Seabiscuit was the unique output of the relationship between the artist, Slick, and the printer, Kistler.
