Jay C. Schreffler, a self-taught artist falls into the category of Outsider or Visionary Artist, as one who had little or no contact with the institutions of the mainstream art world.
Schreffler (1891/2-Feb.22, 1948) was the son of Urias and Mary Ferster Schreffler of Washington Township, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania. Three brothers and one sister: James, Charles, Levi, and Ida made up the rest of the family.
In 1920, Schreffler was a 28-year old farmer living in Lower Mah (showing 500 of 2371 characters). |
