| | Born in Germany on April 9, 1849. While in Berlin, Scheiwe married a woman from Iowa. Upon returning with her to Iowa, they settled in Ottumwa and resided there for many years. He taught at Iowa Wesleyan University and had a studio on Lincoln Avenue in Ottumwa where David Edstrom received his first lessons. Scheiwe spent his last two years in Los Angeles. He died of a heart attack while gathering flowers in his garden on Sept. 14, 1915.
