This biography from the Archives of AskART:
John F. Swientochowski, Artist - Illustrator, was born in New York City and was a graduate of Wilmington High School, Delaware and the Wilmington Academy of Art. He studied with Gayle Hoskins and N.C. Wyeth and was a portrait painter. Mr. Swientochowski was an illustrator of history books, especially about Delaware history and rifles. He also wrote various books about Delaware history and the Indians, most recently the Kalmar Nykel, with his brother, Stanley.

He was a craftsman and made reproduction antique furniture and gave lectures on archaeology. John was a Delaware history, mechanical drawing and woodworking teacher at Wilmington Friends School for many years.

John painted portraits of prominent Delawareans including Delaware Governor (1953-60) Senator J. Caleb Boggs, Wilmington Mayor John E. Babairz (1961-68) and Mayor Joseph S. Wilson.
