| Painter, illustrator. Born in Chicago, IL on June 23, 1868. Smith studied in Paris under Boulanger, Lefebvre, Constant, and Gregori. He taught at the Chicago Art Academy during 1905-14 and then moved to San Diego, CA. By the late teens he had moved to Los Angeles where he briefly owned and operated the School of Illustration & Painting, and by 1919 was an instructor at the California Institute of Art. In 1932 he returned to San Diego and was active in southern California until his death on Dec. 27, 1941. Member: Calif. Art Club; Chicago Society of Artists; Paris-American AA.
