Josh Silburt was born in Plum Coulee, Manitoba, July 24, 1914 and spent most of his childhood in Winnipeg. At an early age, he aspired to a career in the visual arts. As a teenager, he enrolled at night school classes at the Winnipeg School of Art under the direction of Lemoine Fitzgerald and studied cartooning by correspondence courses.
Encouraged by a friend, who was also pursuing a cartooning career, Josh Silburt moved to Toronto in 1934 at the height of the Depression and began doing (showing 500 of 2923 characters). |
