Biography from Kiechel Fine Art:
"Initially working with pure abstraction, landscape has taken its place as my primary source of inspiration.  Using this as subject matter has allowed me to take something that is tied closely to my memory and translate that relationship with paint.  I have been exploring the bridge between realism and abstraction, how working from something tangible effects my composition.

Rather than trying to render a landscape from life, process and translation have become a major focus.  Working from the memory of the specific translates in paint in a way that emphasizes the essential qualities of memory and imagination.  The fluidity and flexibility of the medium creates a depth that is echoed in the muddled and overlapping nature of memory, where varying textures of thought and experience shift and slide and recombine unpredictably.

Landscape plays a large role, having come from a place where it is so utterly undeniable.  The plains, while perhaps not as striking as a mountain vista or ocean view, creates a view of the world uniquely its own.  The changing seasons and light inherent to the plains offer a chance to express personal memory in a way that is at the same time both intimate and universal.  It remains a powerful subject that inserts itself into daily life, defining our basic perspective and msetting the backdrop for our lives.
