Biography from Tree's Place Gallery:
Koo Schadler, born 1962 in Litchfield, Connecticut.

After completing a BA degree in Art History at Tufts University in 1984, she did an internship at the Boston Museum of Fine Arts, and then studied painting in Florence, Italy with artist Peter Foster.  She subsequently moved to California, where she studied under College of Marin painting professor Chester Arnold and was first introduced to working in egg tempera.  In 1993, she returned to New England, and established a studio in rural New Hampshire.

Her subject matter is partly derived from the animals and birds she observes on her frequent woodland walks, and partly from the portraits, diptychs, and triptychs of the northern and Italian Renaissance painters whose works she so admires. The majority of her paintings are miniatures, frequently serving as contemporary secular icons drawn from the natural world.

Schadler is a board member of the Society of Tempera Painters.  She writes and lectures on egg tempera painting, and teaches tempera, gesso making, and Old Master design workshops nationwide.  Her paintings are in more than 250 private, corporate, and museum collections.
