This biography from the Archives of AskART:
The following, submitted March, 2005, is from the artist.

Laurel Sherrie has been an artist for as long as she can remember. Sherrie grew up in a small-town suburb of Chicago where she was always fascinated with nature. She began drawing and art work at a very young age. She majored in Art at Eastern Illinois University, and for a time worked as a graphic artist. After a couple of years, she joyfully returned to her real love of painting in oils in 1987. She has also studied on her own and attended workshops with current Oil Painting Masters.

One of her teachers, Ted Goerschner, was instrumental in switching Sherrie from studio painting to "plein-air" (on location) painting. When she attended his workshop in 1991 she dove into the world of "plein-air" painting and has been immersed in it ever since. Her major influences have been the French Impressionists: Monet, Pissarro and the 19th century California Plein-Air painters.

Laurel Sherrie has been married to Bob Harvey for over 20 years. They met in Los Angeles, moved around to Santa Barbara, Ventura and then settled in Arroyo Grande, California, on the Central Coast. They have a home in the country and happily share it with two Border Collies, a budgie, exotic Australian finches, grass parakeets, tortoises and chickens. She has lived mainly in California since 1969 and has traveled the US, Central America, Europe, South Africa and Australia. California's varied landscapes provide unlimited resources for the landscapes and "plein-air" painting she loves to do.

Since 1990, she has exhibited her work in Santa Barbara, Ventura and San Luis Obispo Counties. Sherrie belongs to the San Luis Obispo Art Association, El Camino Art Association, SLOPE (San Luis Outdoor Painters Enterprise, an elite group of professional "plein-air" painters), the California Art Club and Oil Painters of America. She is proud to be included in Marquis' Who's Who in America for 2002 through 2004.
