The following was provided by a gallery representative of the artist:

Born: January 17, 1961 in Wadesboro, Anson County, North Carolina
Strongest affiliation: NC
Style: pop art
Lives in : Chapel Hill, NC, San Miguel de Allende, Mexico

Reared in the rural community of Wadesboro, NC, located on the NC/SC border, Louis St. Lewis as a child had his art talent recognized. As a result, he was enrolled in early art studies at Western Carolina Universities gifted and talented program from 1974-1977. The artist attended high school at NC school of the Arts located in Winston Salem, NC and continued his arts education at both Cooper Union and Stanford University.

The artist settled in the college town of Chapel Hill, NC in the early 80's. An avid traveler, Louis struck up friendships with pop artists such as Andy Warhol, Robert Indiana, and McDermott & McGogh, which greatly influenced his outlook. He maintains studios in both NC and Mexico.

St. Lewis is best known for small intimate collages on both glass and plexiglas which provide unique perceptions in pop culture, fame and immortality as well as assemblage and large scale acrylic paintings. The artist has been named " Best artist in the Triangle" by Spectator/ Independent Magazine in 1988, 1990, 1992, 1994, 1997 , 1998, 2000, 2001 and 2002. He is also known for poster designs for organizations including ARTSPLOSORE fine arts and Jazz festival 1994, 1997, 2003 and by the Opera Company of NC 2003.
