This biography from the Archives of AskART:
| The following, submitted August 2005, is from the artist.
Born in Queens, New York, Louise P. Sloane, who received a BA degree from the School of Visual Arts in 1974, has resided in New York State for her entire life. She is a painter in minimalist style who creates highly textural surfaces from abstractions of written communications.
Her paintings utilized mixed media to create her surface and color. Included in her mediums are the following: Molding Paste, Polymer Gels and Mediums, Hi Pigment Loaded Acrylic Paint, Pure PIgment Powders, Sand, Grains, Latex House Paints, and Bees wax.
"...Sloane's art is that of the hand for the eye, and though not incidentally, the story is still an added value, intertwined with the materiality of her paintings, another interpretation of the current reconciliation between abstraction and representation, between modernism's pure object and postmodernist narrative..." -Lilly Wei, from "Tactile Expressions," 2004.
ARTIST STATEMENT: "The reductive sensibility of minimalism has provided my initial impulse for aesthetic exploration. My focuses upon geometric forms, grids, repetitive patterns, actual writing and solid panes of layered color. My goal has been to create objects with presence: Paintings that can be seen at their basic physical appearance and appreciated at face value" Louise P. Sloane
