| | Born in Austria in 1847. Salvator was an Archduke of Austria. A master of 12 languages, he had a passion for travel and natural science. In the winter of 1876 he was in the sleepy town of Los Angeles interviewing its citizens and observing. His illustrations and account of his trip were published in 1878 as Eine Blume aus dem Goldenen Lande oder Los Angeles. He was again in Los Angeles in 1879.
