This biography from the Archives of AskART:
The following biography is provided to AskARt.com by Al Jones of Tarrant County College.

Martha Spurlock, with a studio in Fort Worth, Texas, is a self-taught, nationally acclaimed artist with numerous credits and awards. Born in New Mexico, her natural artistic ability and love for the outdoors developed at an early age. With the encouragement of well-known western artist Bob Tommey, Martha began her art career. She has been painting for over twenty-five years, and professionally since 1976. Her range of subject is vast but western and wildlife are her specialties.

Each painting reflects the countless hours of research and planning required before she begins to paint. Her in-depth research into authentic situations includes numerous photo shoots, cowboy gatherings, pow-wows, and rendezvous. "I enjoy life and strive to portray life to its fullest in each and every piece of art I paint". At one glance you can see that her work reflects those qualities.

While her true love continues to be watercolor, her commission work has led her to all forms of medium painting. Martha's paintings are held in many private and corporate collections in England, Japan and throughout the United States. Her work is seen in numerous exhibitions such as the Great American Artist Exhibit, Mountain Oyster Art Sale in Tucson, Midwest Gathering of Artists, and the Southwest Classic Invitational Fine Art Show.

Her entry titled "Shadows of the Past" was selected as Region III winner by the National Park Academy of the Arts in their annual ARTS FOR THE PARKS competition. Martha has received numerous other awards including "Artist Choice" given at the Midwest Gathering of Artists; of which she is a four time recipient, "Artist of the Year" received at Reno, Nevada and the "W.C. Dandrige Sr." She received a memorial award given at Brushstrokes in Joplin, Missouri.

Her artwork has appeared in many periodicals, magazines and calendars, including; the National Park Academy of the Arts, The National Quarter Horse Association and American Paint Horse Journal. She recently illustrated her first childrens book, "Little Foxes Secret; the Mystery of Bents Fort". Martha has also been selected as one of the Outstanding Young Women of America.
Martha operates her own studio and resides in Fort Worth, Texas.
