Born in New York in July 1833. Stevens was a primitive painter in the Catskills before studying in Europe. By 1880 she was living in Vallejo, CA and by 1886 she had moved to Los Angeles where she was active in the local art scene and a founder of the Society of Fine Arts of Southern California in 1895. By 1910 she had returned to Vallejo where she remained until her demise on June 24, 1920.
