The following, submitted June 2005, is from Kathleen Putman, niece of the artist.
Mary Lou Thomas (1899-1989) was a portrait and landscape painter who moved to Taos, New Mexico, in 1927 to join the art colony there. Located in the Sangre de Cristo (Blood of Christ) mountain area of northern New Mexico, Taos was established as one of the United States' major art colonies by the 1920's.
As Taos gained recognition more artists were attracted to the area, including Thomas who was part (showing 500 of 3976 characters). |
