Born in Szeged, Hungary, he was a portrait, landscape, miniature, and Indian painter whose intense interest in art took him in 1881 from his native country to New York City. His style on his large paintings was meticulous and realistic, likely the result of his miniature work on ivory.
As a young man, he worked in an exporting house in Budapest, but went to America to pursue his love of art. He studied at the Art Students League in New York City with George De Forest Brush. (showing 500 of 2796 characters). |
