| The following is from Edward C. Marhanka: Mikki Senkarik (1954 - )
Born in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, Senkarik has changed from a medical illustrator in the 1980s to a plein-air painter in the 1990s. Her success as a plein-air artist is a far cry from her days before she met her current mate.
A product of child abuse by her biological father and physical abuse by her first husband seemed like insurmountable odds for anyone to overcome. Her misfortunes turned around forever that fateful day, February 4, 1989. Immediately recognizing her talents at an art show in San Antonio, her husband-to-be took this wounded bird under his care and has nurtured her back to good health and elevated her career to new heights. A master painter himself, he put his career on hold to develop hers.
Today, Senkariks colorful plein-air landscapes are a mix of California Impressionism with a New Mexico flavor. She uses the double primary palette technique bringing her paintings to life. Her colorful landscapes are intended as Billboards of Happiness, letting all the beauty that was trapped inside for all those horrible years out for all to enjoy for generations.
Senkarik is a graduate of the Medical College of Georgia and has illustrated 47 major medical books. Some of her early works as a painter of horses can be seen at Museum of the Horse in Lexington, Kentucky.
Her colorful brush strokes splashing across the canvas creating landscapes are painted both in her studio and en plein air. In addition to the focus on her painting, Senkarik and her husband spend an enormous amount of time giving back to the community by directing the career of other talented artists.
