Biography from Butler Institute of American Art:
Mikos Suba (1880-1944)
(from an exhibition catalog : "Miklos Suba : Line by Line : A portfolio of Brooklyn Drawings" published by James Graham & Sons in 2001.
In 1924 Miklos Suba immigrated to the United States from Hungary and settled at 142 Montague Street in Brooklyn with his wife and daughter.
Prior to 1924 Suba had studied architecture at the Royal Technical University of Budapest and painting at the Vienna Academy in Austria. It is likely that Suba's architectural training predisposed him to the Precisionist aesthetic.
Suba's career thrived in the United States. Between 1926 and 1944 his work was shown in twenty-one exhibitions in a variety of venues : The Anderson Galleries, Brooklyn Museum of Art, The Artist's Gallery in Brooklyn, The Grant Studios in Brooklyn, Delphic Studios in New York; Metropolitan Museum of Art and The Art Institute of Chicago. He was included in two important shows, American Realists and Magic Realists at the Metropolitan in 1944 and The Annual Exhibition of Contemporary Art at the Whitney in 1943-1944.
