This biography from the Archives of AskART:
Minna Walker Smith studied at the Yale School of the Fine Arts* with New Haven Paint & Clay Club* members John Ferguson Weir and John H. Niemeyer.  She concentrated on portraiture while at Yale, and she also became a skillful watercolor artist.  One of her specialties was portrait miniatures, when she exhibited with the Club.  By the 1920's, she was becoming known for her flower paintings.  He work was in exhibits at the grand Central Art Galleries* in New York and with the Connecticut Watercolor Society.

She joined the New Haven Paint & clay Club in 1926, the same year that she became a member of the American Watercolor Society*.  She exhibited watercolors in every show of the Club for fifty years.  In her memory, the Club sponsored the Minna Walker Smith Prize for Watercolor from 1964 until 1994.
